Tortoise Shell Purse : my first pattern

The first pattern is an adorable coin purse that inspired from ...turtle (what else?). I spent a month for it, designing and making the purse are easy steps but using the computer drawing program is not. I can made this purse and take the step-by-step photographs in a day and then spent the other days for drawing, printing and checking ....repeat the process again and again to make sure that had no any mistake.


This purse is the excellent project to the hand-sewing lover, there is only one step that can do by machine. As I had tried to join them by both ways, I found hand piecing is faster and easier. It is also the proper way to use the beautiful scrap fabrics and the leftover batting.

3 Pockets Big Square Bag

Last year I designed and made it for my bestfriend as a diaper bag. I have a plan to make it again because I would like to try to sew zipper by machine. It is easy with straight edges but for curve edges a little bit difficult.

Today is cutting time!!...and basting the table runner.

Inside my Indian Purse

For this bag I used smocking method that I learn from my quilting teacher, Nicole Park (Pretty Quilt's owner), and she gave the stripe fabric to for make folding center piece. I designed and draw bag pattern myself, I gave the pattern to Nicky (as a returning gift because she don't charge teaching fee for this method) so she can used it to teach other students.
I am not giving up for smocking yet. I still have one more project to go, the four petal flower smocking. First I planed to make a large tote bag but I found that it look like a big pillow so I will change design. I have no idea. Maybe I should drop it for awhile.

ส่วนโปรเจคสม็อกกิ้งกำลังอยู่ในสภาวะหยุดนิ่งชั่วคราวค่ะ คือทำออกมาแล้วมันเหมือนหมอนอิงมากๆ ต้องเปลี่ยนแบบค่ะยังนึกไม่ออก คงต้องทิ้งไว้สักพักค่ะ

Smocking experiments

Well, back to the days, I was studying in secondary school. I learn to make a pillow with smocking from satin. Never thought that I could do other projects with this sewing technique. Last week I read japanese sewing magazine. (Oh!!.. I have to tell I can't understand japanese articles but there are a lot of pictures or I should say that I just scan it instead.)  So I have an idea to make the smocking purse. These are my new experiments, I would like to learn and try several styles of smockings before design and make a template...What should it be?

Basic Machine Quilting Class Part 3

Lesson 3 : Rail fence Patch

As I am a fabric collector, yes, I can't stop myself to buy new fabrics. I started to collect purple, pink fabrics for two years before I made this bag. I like their color but no idea until I leant this lesson. I never thought I really love for freemotion quilting  until I made it, very fun.
ผ้าที่ใช้ทำกระเป๋าในนี้เป็นผ้าที่สะสมเอาไว้นานแสนนาน สะสมไว้ทีละชิ้น ตอนซื้อก็ไม่เคยคิดว่าจะเอาไปทำอะไร ใช้กับผ้าชิ้นไหน จนกระทั่งถึงเวลาเรียนบทเรียนนี้ค่ะ ผ้าทุกชิ้นสีเข้ากันพอดี และเมื่อทำเสร็จแล้วที่ร้านก็มีหูกระเป๋าที่สีเข้ากันอีกด้วยค่ะ

เทคนิคที่ใช้จะคล้ายกับในบทเรียนแรกค่ะ ตัวกระเป๋าส่วนที่ใช้ผ้าพื้นสีม่วงเป็นงานทดลองค่ะ ชอบทำฟรีโมชั่นอยู่แล้ว เมื่อมีโอกาสก็เลยลองดูว่าทำให้เล็ก และละเอียดที่สุด ผลจะเป็นอย่างไร  ก็ได้ผลออกมาดังรูปค่ะ

Pink Basket Patchwork Handbag

For me this item is not just a bag but it is an art work. Because of its complex design, I spent 2 month to finish, one for pieced and another for quilted, a long.....time. It's my masterpiece item for 2010....very hard to do. I really love it.

กระเป๋าใบนี้เป็นความท้าทายส่วนตัว อยากทำมากจนคุณครูต้องกลับบ้านไปหาชุดคิทมาให้ ลองทำดูแล้วก็พบว่า ยากสมใจ ต่อผ้าเดือนนึง ควิ้ลท์เดือนนึง เหมาะมากสำหรับคนที่ชอบต่ิอผ้า

This patchwork bag is made from more than 200 pieced of quilting weight cotton fabric. For each block, I have to hand sew 8 triangles ( pink stripe) around an octagon ( flower print ) and add 4 triangle to corner to make square. ( be shown in picture below). After finished 16 blocks, sewed very fine hand stitches to make stripe print join accurately,to show the basket- liked. Hand quilted along stripe line and every sewing line , machine free motion quilted at bottom make it strong.
 
เป็นงานต่อผ้าที่ท้าทายมากใช้ผ้าเกือบ 200 ชิ้น วาดแบบ วางผ้า ตัดผ้า ต้องตรงมากๆไม่อย่างนั้นจะไม่พอดี ไหนจะต้องให้มุมให้ลายชนกันอีก  คือ งานชิ้นนี้ไม่ใช่การตัดผ้าลายทางมาสานกัน แต่เป็นการต่อผ้าทั้งหมดตามรูปข้างล่างนี่ ใช้ผ้าสามเหลี่ยม 8 ชิ้นต่อรอบๆ ผ้าชิ้นแปดเหลี่ยม แล้วต่อมุมด้วยผ้าสามเหลี่ยมอีก 4 ชิ้น เราจะได้บล็อกสี่เหลี่ยม แล้วจะต้องเอามาต่อกันโดยที่ลายผ้าต้องต่อกันพอดิบพอดี จึงจะได้ลักษณะที่เหมือนตะกร้าสาน พอเสร็จควิ้ลท์ตามลายทางทั้งใบ ใบนี้ตรงก้นควิ้ลทฟรีโมชั่นจักร กระเป๋าจะได้เป็นทรง ตอนประกอบก็ใช้จักรไม่ได้ลายจะไม่พอดีต้องต่อมือทั้งใบ

Basic Hand Quilting Class at Pretty Quilt part 2

Lesson 3 : Triangle patch , fabric grain, seam pressing

กระเป๋าใบเล็กที่งานไม่เล็กอย่างที่คิด  เรียกว่า เป็นไฮไลท์ของงานเลยทีเดียว

For hand piecing, seam pressing may be different from machine piecing. After finish 3rd project I could understand how to design patchwork.

วิธีการพับตะเข็บสำหรับงานมือจะไม่เหมือนกับงานจักร  จบการศึกษาจากบทเรียนนี้จะได้ประโยชน์มากเพราะ จะประยุกต์ไปใช้กับการต่อผ้้าแบบอื่นๆได้ด้วย



Lesson 4 : Hand Applique' ( Needle-turned applique')

For this project, I designed applique' and embroidery pattern myself, patchwork patterns and overall  are design by Pretty quilt. Original bag is Heart Applique' handbag.

เนื่องจากทำกระเป๋าที่มีหัวใจมาหลายใบ ทั้ง แอพพลิเคล่ และ ควิลท์ จะให้ทำตามตัวอย่างในแบบเรียนก็ใช่ที่ งานนี้ก็เลยขอแหวกแนว(อีกแล้ว) โดยการเปลี่ยนลายแอพพลิเคล่และเพิ่มลายปักเข้าไปอีก สำหรับลายกระถาง และบัวรดน้ำ ปรับมาจากหนังสือเกาหลี แต่ลายปักนี่วาดเอง ปักเอง รับผิดชอบเอง
เนื่องจากเติมลายละเอียดเข้าไปเยอะ งานนี้ก็ใช้เวลาทำนานอีกแล้ว นักเรียนที่อยากจะเรียนจบเร็วๆ แนะนำว่าอย่าเปลี่ยนดีไซน์ในบทเรียนเลยค่ะ จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวนะคะ คุณครูไม่เคยยอมให้เราทำงานที่ง่ายกว่าในตัวอย่างในหนังสือ และ จะพยายามเพิ่มรายละเอียดให้งานเรายากขึ้นอีกหลายเท่า  และใช้เวลาทำนานกว่าที่คาดไว้ค่ะ

Autumn Color Triangle Patchwork Handbag

I made this bag from Pretty Quilt kit set. It's not my original design but I arranged fabric to show star shape at bottom to make it special, unique.And I am resized this bag myself because I am not a tall person, my height is about  5 fts so I prefer smallest size. This bag is smaller than the original about 2/3 of normal size but roomy enough to carry magazine.

กระเป๋าใบนี้ทำจากคิทเซท ร้านครูนิกกี้ ต้นแบบจะเป็นการวางผ้าคละกันให้ความหนักเบาของสีกระจายเท่าำกันทั้งใบและใหญ่มากสำหรับตัวไซส์มินิอย่างเรา  แต่หลังจากนั่งๆนอนๆดูผ้าก็สรุปได้ว่าจะทำให้เหมือนใครไปทำไมกัน  ใหญ่ไปก็ลดไซส์สิ เรียงผ้าตรงก้นกระเป๋าให้เป็นรูปดาวด้วย  เพิ่มความสูงจากแบบไปอีกแถวนึงจะได้ใส่หนังสือได้ เปลี่ยนแบบไม่เคยถามใคร ไม่รอครูอนุมัติด้วยเพราะมันไม่อยู่ในบทเรียน พอเสร็จแล้วบังเอิญว่าออกมาสวยก็โล่งอก โชคดีไป
